Value Proposition for Targeted Market – Packaging

When high barrier is required in flexible packaging applications, customers typically use metallized coatings on polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP) films. However, the metallization renders these films opaque and non-transparent.

For transparent or see-through flexible packaging applications, the options include EVOH resin, PVDC coatings and Silicon Dioxide coatings which are expensive and/or environmentally unfriendly.

InMat’s Nanolok™ coatings for packaging are unique in providing a transparent (see-through) high barrier that is relatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly. In addition, Nanolok™ coatings can be applied using a low-cost method, using standard gravure-coating techniques which are the same methods used to print onto films.

Another unique aspect of Nanolok™ technology is that it provides the same level of high barrier on different types of polymer films (from PET to PP). This can not be achieved with any of the current barrier technologies.
